Okay, so I tried to do a 3D scan of my feet today, and let me tell you, it was a complete disaster. I’m not even sure what went wrong, but the results were… well, let’s just say they were wrong.
The Setup
I started by finding a relatively well-lit area in my house. I figured good lighting would be key, you know? I cleared out some space on the floor, grabbed my phone (which has a decent camera, I thought), and downloaded one of those 3D scanning apps. Seemed straightforward enough.
The Scanning Process
The app instructed me to slowly move my phone around my foot, capturing it from all angles. So, I did that. I carefully circled my foot, trying to keep a steady hand and follow the on-screen guides. It felt a little awkward, contorting myself to get the bottom of my foot, but I managed. I did this for both feet, one at a time.
- I started with my right foot.
- Then I carefully scanned the left foot too.
The Processing
After I finished scanning, the app started “processing” the images. It took a while, longer than I expected. I was getting pretty excited, picturing a perfect 3D model of my foot popping up on the screen. I started imagining all the cool things I can do with it.
The Results (Oh Boy)
When the processing finally finished, I was greeted with… something. It was supposed to be my foot, but it looked more like a blob monster from a low-budget horror movie. Seriously, it was all distorted and weird. My toes were fused together, my heel was misshapen, and there were random bumps and lumps all over the place. My left foot looked even worse. It was a complete failure.
My frustration
I tried rescanning couple times. The result was same. I thought that the scanning app was not good. So, I downloaded another app and tried again. It didn’t go well again!
What Now?
I’m not sure what I did wrong. Maybe the lighting wasn’t as good as I thought? Maybe I moved my phone too quickly? Or maybe my feet are just un-scannable. Whatever the reason, I’m left with these bizarre 3D models that are absolutely useless. I guess I’ll have to try again another day, or maybe just give up on the whole 3D foot-scanning dream. For now, I’m sticking to 2D photos.
