Alright, let’s talk about this “6 x 60” thing I tried. It sounded simple enough, but, man, it kicked my butt.
The idea popped up – I forget where, probably some fitness blog or something – and it was basically this: 6 exercises, 60 seconds each. No rest in between. Sounds easy, right? Wrong.
My Plan of Attack (and Subsequent Failure)
First, I picked my exercises. I went for a mix of stuff, trying to hit different muscle groups. I remember I did:
- Jumping jacks (gotta get that heart rate up)
- Squats (because leg day is every day…apparently)
- Push-ups (my arms were already shaking at the thought)
- Crunches (abs, baby!)
- Lunges (more legs, oh joy)
- Plank (the longest 60 seconds of my life, every time)
Then i set the phone’s timer.
Then, I hit “start” and jumped right into those jumping jacks. First 20 seconds, I’m feeling good, like, “Yeah, I got this!” Then, the burn started to creep in. By 40 seconds, my legs were feeling it. And at 60 seconds, I was already gasping for air.
Straight into squats. My legs were already screaming from the jumping jacks, so these were rough. I tried to keep good form, but I’m pretty sure my form went out the window about halfway through. Sixty seconds felt like an eternity.
Next up, push-ups. Oh, boy. I usually do a good number, so I started. My arms were shaking like crazy. I’m pretty sure I ended up doing some kind of weird, half-push-up, barely-bending-my-elbows thing. Not pretty.
Crunches were a slight relief, but only because my arms and legs got a tiny break. Still, my abs were on fire by the end. Felt those working, for sure.
Lunges. Again with the legs! I wobbled, I stumbled, and I probably looked ridiculous. But I pushed through, one shaky lunge at a time.
Finally, the plank. The dreaded plank. I got down into position, arms already tired from the push-ups. The first 30 seconds were okay, just that normal plank burn. Then, the shaking started. My whole body was vibrating, and I was pretty sure I was going to collapse. I gritted my teeth, focused on a spot on the floor, and somehow, miraculously, made it to 60 seconds.
The Aftermath
I collapsed on the floor, completely spent. It sounds short, with the whole only-six-minutes thing, but it was intense! It felt like I sprinted the whole time.
I ended up I could’t even get to the bathroom myself, my wife helped me walk to the bathroom, I guess I was so exhausted and my whole body was hurting.
I laid in bed for the whole afternoon, and drank a lot of water.
Definitely a good workout, though. I’ll probably try it again, maybe with some easier exercises next time. Or maybe I’ll just stick to walking. We’ll see.
