Okay, so I saw this listing online: “macintosh plus computer for sale”. I’ve always wanted one of those old-school Macs, you know, the beige boxy ones. It just screams retro cool. So, I decided to go for it.
The Hunt Begins
First, I messaged the seller. Asked a bunch of questions – Does it turn on? Any dead pixels? Floppy drive working? You know, the usual stuff when you’re buying something that’s older than some college kids.
The seller got back to me pretty quick. Said it was in “good working condition”, but, you know, you always take that with a grain of salt. They sent a couple of pictures, it looked alright, no major yellowing or anything.
Taking the Plunge
We agreed on a price (which I won’t disclose, because, you know, bargaining secrets!). I sent the payment, and then the waiting game began. It’s always a bit nerve-wracking buying vintage stuff online. You just never know what you’re gonna get until it arrives.
The Arrival
A few days later, a big box showed up at my door. I ripped it open like a kid on Christmas morning. Inside, nestled in a ton of bubble wrap, was the Macintosh Plus.
- I first unpacked to check.
- Then I carefully took out the computer.
- I also found the keyboard and mouse.
Fingers Crossed
I plugged everything in – power cord, keyboard, mouse. Took a deep breath, and hit the power switch. I heard that familiar bong sound, and the screen flickered to life! Success!
I get the happy mac icon!
The Verdict
It booted up to, I think, System 6. Played a little bit of MacPaint, just for the nostalgia factor. The floppy drive even worked! I loaded up some old game I had lying around, and it was like stepping back in time.
Overall, I’m super stoked. It’s not perfect, of course. There’s a little bit of screen burn-in, but honestly, that just adds to the vintage charm. Now, all I need to do is find a good spot to display it!
