So, I decided to make my own phone case, an Otto phone case. I have this Otto toy that I really like, and I thought it would be cool to have it on my phone. I started by sketching out some ideas. I wanted it to be sturdy, but also look good. Nothing fancy, just a simple design with Otto’s face on it.
After a few rough sketches, I picked one I liked the most. Then I started to think about what materials I should use. I had some old plastic lying around from a previous project. It was strong enough, so I thought, why not? I measured my phone and cut the plastic into the right shape. This was a bit tricky, getting the curves right and making sure it fits snugly.
Making the Mold
Next, I needed to shape the plastic to actually fit my phone. I used a heat gun to warm up the plastic and then molded it around a dummy phone I made from clay. It took a few tries to get it right. I had to reheat and reshape it a couple of times. I wanted to make sure it was perfect, you know?
Adding Otto’s Features
With the basic shape done, it was time to add Otto. I used some polymer clay to create Otto’s face. I baked the clay pieces in the oven according to the instructions. Once they were hard and cool, I painted them with acrylic paints. It was fun trying to get Otto’s expression just right. Eyes, mouth, the whole shebang. Getting the colors to match the toy was a bit of a challenge, but I think I nailed it in the end.
Putting it all together
Now came the moment of truth. I glued the Otto face onto the plastic case using some strong adhesive. I made sure it was centered and pressed it down firmly. I let it dry overnight. I was a little worried that the glue wouldn’t hold, but it turned out fine.
The next day, I checked the case, and it looked pretty good. I put my phone in, and it fit perfectly! The Otto face was right there, staring back at me. It felt great to have something I made myself protecting my phone. It’s not a professional job, but it’s unique and I’m proud of it.
Final Touches
I used it for a few days, just to see how it holds up. It got a few scratches, but nothing major. I might add a layer of sealant later to protect the paint. That’s something I can do another day.
So yeah, that’s how I made my Otto phone case. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and that’s what counts. Maybe I’ll try making another one in the future, with different materials or a different design. Who knows?
