Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this new M3 Ultra thing from Apple, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I got my hands on it after hearing some buzz about it, probably around June 7th, 2024, after the WWDC event.
I started by just unpacking it and getting it set up. It is Apple so setting up is a breeze. Nothing too fancy, just followed the usual steps. Once I got it running, I really wanted to see what this chip could do. I mean, they say it’s better than the M3, M3 Pro, and even the M2 Ultra, so I was pretty pumped. It is said to have better performance, graphics and AI capabilities.
- First Impressions:
The first thing I did was just everyday stuff, browsing, some light work. Honestly, it felt super smooth, no lag, everything was just snappy. But that’s not what I really wanted to test, right?
- Diving Deeper:
Next, I started throwing some heavier tasks at it. I do some video editing on the side, so I loaded up a big project I had been working on. This is where things got interesting. Rendering times, which used to take forever on my old setup, were noticeably faster. I’m talking about cutting down the time by like, half, maybe even more. I was impressed, not gonna lie.
I also played around with some graphic design software. I’m no pro, but I like to dabble. Again, the M3 Ultra handled everything like a champ. Smooth, no stuttering, even with a bunch of layers and effects. This chip is a beast when it comes to graphics.
- Getting Technical:
Now, I’m not a huge tech-head, but I did look into some of the specs. I learned that this M3 Ultra has more cores than the regular M3 and the M3 Pro, which explains why it’s so much faster. It’s also supposed to be better with AI stuff. It is also a newer chip than the M2 Ultra.
- Pushing the Limits:
To really see what this thing could do, I decided to run multiple heavy tasks at once. I had my video editing software rendering in the background, while I was also working on a big design project, and streaming music. Guess what? No slowdowns, no crashes, nothing. It handled everything like a boss.
- Final Thoughts:
So, after spending a good chunk of time with the M3 Ultra, I gotta say, I’m sold. It’s definitely a big step up from the older models. Whether you’re a pro or just someone who likes to push their tech, this chip is worth checking out. It’s fast, it’s powerful, and it can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. I’m excited to see what else I can do with it. This is definitely a game-changer in my book.
