Okay, so I wanted to mess around with “m4” and “7” today. I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into, but I figured, why not? Let’s give it a shot.
First, I kinda just stared at the names. “m4″… “7”… What could I do with that? I brainstormed a bit, and decided to play around with them individually at first.
Playing with ‘m4’
I tried to use it and see how I could get it working and what it does.
- I went searching to see if I could find a download.
- I finally got m4 installed. I just followed some basic instructions I found online. It seemed pretty straightforward, you know, just typical command-line stuff.
Playing with ‘7’
I then tried to figure out the 7 part.
- I created a test file with 7 items of data in it.
- Then I used various commands, played around, nothing too crazy.
Putting ‘m4’ and ‘7’ Together
I decided to try and put everything together. I wanted to feed the file with ‘7’ things into ‘m4’.
- I figured out how to use the basic m4 commands.
- I ran my file with my seven things with it.
- The output looks correct.
So yeah, that was my little adventure with “m4” and “7”. It was a bit of a random thing, but hey, I learned something new, and that’s always a good thing, right? It wasn’t super complicated, but it was fun to just poke around and see what happens. Maybe I’ll try to build something more complex with m4 another time!
