Okay, so Black Friday, right? I’ve been eyeing a new mechanical keyboard for ages. My old one is, like, ancient. Figured Black Friday was the perfect excuse to finally pull the trigger.
First thing I did was make a list. Not just any list, a super specific list of what I actually wanted in a keyboard. I’m talking switch type (ended up going for browns, wanted something tactile but not too loud), size (tenkeyless, gotta save desk space), and even keycap material (PBT all the way!). I spent, seriously, days researching different brands and models. Watched a ton of YouTube reviews, read countless forum posts. You know, the usual.
Then came the hard part: actually finding deals. I started checking all the usual suspects: Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg, even some of the smaller keyboard-specific websites. I signed up for their email lists, followed them on Twitter, the whole nine yards. The spam was real, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do for a good deal.
Black Friday week rolled around and it was…chaos. Deals popping up and disappearing faster than I could blink. Some were legit, some were clearly just inflated prices that were then “discounted” to the regular price. Sneaky! I had my list of keyboards I wanted ready to go, and I kept refreshing those pages like it was my job.
I almost caved a few times on some decent but not perfect deals. I saw a nice keyboard with blue switches (too loud!) for a steal, and another one that was the right size but had ABS keycaps (no thanks!). But I held strong. I knew what I wanted, and I wasn’t going to settle.
Finally, on actual Black Friday, bam! A deal on the exact keyboard I wanted: a Ducky One 2 TKL with Cherry MX Brown switches and PBT keycaps. It was on *, and the discount was actually pretty substantial. I didn’t even hesitate. Clicked “add to cart,” checked out faster than I ever have before, and boom! Keyboard secured.
The waiting game was brutal. It felt like forever before it finally arrived. When it did though? Oh man, totally worth it. The keyboard feels amazing to type on. The browns are perfect, the PBT keycaps are super smooth, and it just looks fantastic on my desk. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and I’m still in love.
Lessons learned from my Black Friday mechanical keyboard hunt:
- Do your research beforehand. Know exactly what you want so you don’t get swayed by mediocre deals.
- Start early. Don’t wait until Black Friday to start looking. The deals often start a week or more before.
- Compare prices carefully. Make sure the “discounted” price is actually a good deal.
- Be patient. The perfect deal might not show up right away, but it’s worth waiting for.
Overall, it was a successful Black Friday adventure. I got exactly what I wanted, and I saved some money doing it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some typing to do…
