Okay, so I’ve been messing around with this whole “iPhone standing case” thing, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey. I wanted something that could prop my phone up for watching videos or video calls, without being super bulky. My first attempt was a total fail.
First Try: The Cheap Route
I went and grabbed one of those cheap, plastic cases with a built-in kickstand. You know, the kind you find for like, five bucks? Yeah, big mistake.
- Pros:
- It was cheap. (That’s about it.)
- Cons:
- Flimsy as heck. The kickstand felt like it would snap if I breathed on it wrong.
- The viewing angle was terrible. It was either too upright or practically flat.
- The case itself felt like it would offer zero protection if I dropped my phone.
I used this case for maybe a day before I was totally over it.
Second Try: DIY Disaster
Feeling all crafty, I decided to try and make my own. I had some cardboard, tape, and a whole lot of optimism. I figured, how hard could it be, right? I started by cutting out a piece of cardboard that looked like it could be folded. Then Folded the cardboard into a triangle shape. And taped it to the back of a regular phone case.
Let’s just say my engineering skills are… lacking. It looked janky, it didn’t stand up straight, and the tape kept peeling off. My phone ended up face-planting more times than I care to admit. It’s a good thing I had a screen protector!
Third Try: Success (Finally!)
I finally caved and decided to spend a little more money. I did some searching, watched some reviews, and ended up getting a case with a magnetic, foldable stand. This one was a game-changer!
-
The Good Stuff:
- Strong magnets! The stand actually stays put.
- Multiple viewing angles. I can adjust it to whatever I need.
- The case feels sturdy and protective.
I finally set a good case, and I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and I’m actually happy with it. It’s not perfect, but it’s a million times better than my first two attempts. Lesson learned: sometimes it’s worth it to spend a little more to get something that actually works!
So, that’s my standing case saga. Hopefully, my trial and error can save you some time (and frustration) if you’re looking for a way to prop up your iPhone!
