Nioh 2 Easy Mode: Does Nioh 2 Have Difficulty Settings for New Players?

Alright, so I’ve been getting really into Nioh 2 lately. It’s tough, no doubt about it, but I love the challenge. I was chatting with some buddies online, and someone asked if the game had difficulty settings. I honestly wasn’t sure, so I decided to do some digging and testing myself.

My Little Experiment

First, I jumped back into the game. I figured the most obvious place to look would be in the main menu, before even loading up a save file. I poked around in the settings… nothing. Hmm, okay, maybe it’s something you can only access in-game.

So, I loaded up my current playthrough. I went into the pause menu, scrolled through all the options – system settings, controls, gameplay, everything. Still no sign of any difficulty sliders or anything like that.

Next, I thought, “Maybe it’s tied to the missions themselves?” I headed over to the starting point of a mission, the little shrine. I checked all the options there – nope, nothing about difficulty.

Feeling a bit stumped, I decided to do some good old-fashioned Googling. I typed in “does Nioh 2 have difficulty settings” and hit enter.

The Verdict?

Turns out, Nioh 2 doesn’t have traditional difficulty settings like “Easy,” “Normal,” or “Hard.” The game is designed to be challenging, and that’s just part of the experience. That being said there is a hard mode but it can only be accessed through New Game +.

I learned there are ways to make things slightly easier on yourself such as:

  • Summoning other players for co-op. This is huge! Having a buddy (or two) can really take the pressure off.
  • Leveling up your character and gear. Seems obvious, but grinding a bit to get stronger can make a big difference.
  • Using specific builds and skills. Some weapon types and magic/ninjutsu skills are more effective against certain enemies.

So, while you can’t just flip a switch to make the game easier, there are ways to tweak the experience to your liking. Honestly, I appreciate that Nioh 2 sticks to its guns. It’s a tough game, but that’s what makes it so rewarding when you finally conquer a tough boss or area.
