So, I recently got my hands on the OnePlus Watch 2, and while I’m loving the watch itself, the charging situation was a bit…messy. The little puck charger is fine, but it just slides around on my nightstand, and I was always worried about knocking it off. I needed a better solution, a charging stand.
I hopped online, did some quick searching, and realized there weren’t a ton of dedicated OnePlus Watch 2 stands out there. Most were those generic “fits-all” types, and honestly, I wanted something a bit more… snug. So, I decided I would be making my own.
The DIY Approach
First, I scrounged around for materials. I didn’t want anything fancy, just something functional. I ended up finding:
- Some scrap wood (leftover from a previous project… I think it was a shelf?)
- A sturdy cardboard tube (the kind you find inside a roll of wrapping paper)
- Some strong glue (the kind that can practically bond anything)
- Sandpaper (various grits, because why not?)
- My trusty tools: a saw, a drill.
Started by cutting the wood into a simple base – a rectangle, nothing complicated. Then, I cut the cardboard tube at an angle. This would be the part that holds the watch charger, so the angle was important to make sure the watch face was visible.
Next, I sanded everything down. The wood, the cardboard, making sure there were no splinters or rough edges. I wanted a smooth, clean look (even if it was just cardboard and scrap wood!).
The tricky part was figuring out how to secure the charging puck.I drilled a hole slightly smaller than the puck’s diameter, and created a snug little pocket for it to fit. I used a bit of glue to make sure that thing wasn’t going anywhere.
Finally, I glued the angled cardboard tube to the wooden base. Held it in place for a good while, making sure it was properly set before using it.
It’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but it works! My OnePlus Watch 2 now has a proper home on my nightstand. It’s stable, the charging puck is secure, and I’m not worried about accidentally sending it flying across the room anymore. A total win, even if it’s a bit rough around the edges.
