Alright, so I kept losing my keys, sometimes my backpack too. Heard about these Pebblebee things that work with Apple’s Find My network, kinda like AirTags but different shapes. I saw they had two main ones, the Tag and the Clip, and couldn’t figure out which was better for me, so I just decided to get both and try them out myself. Seemed like the only real way to know.
Getting Started
They arrived pretty quick. Simple packaging, nothing fancy. Pulled them out. The Tag is this little flat square, kinda smooth. Feels light. The Clip is chunkier, definitely thicker, but it’s got that metal ring and the black plastic body feels solid enough. You can see right away they’re built for different jobs.
First thing was getting them set up. I used my iPhone, went straight into the Find My app. Hit the ‘Add Item’ button. The app found both the Tag and the Clip pretty much instantly when I held down their buttons like the instructions said. Named one ‘My Keys’ (for the Clip) and the other ‘My Wallet’ (for the Tag). Honestly, the setup was dead simple, took maybe two minutes for both. No drama there, which was nice.
Putting Them to Use
Okay, time to actually use them. The Clip was obvious. It has that built-in ring. I just opened it up and clipped it directly onto my keychain. Took like five seconds. Felt secure right away.
The Tag was different. It’s just a flat square. Great size for my wallet, I thought. So, I slid it into one of the card slots. It fit perfectly, didn’t make the wallet feel much thicker, which was a big plus. But then I thought, what if I wanted it on my keys? Or my TV remote? It doesn’t have a hole or anything. You’d definitely need to buy a separate holder for it, or maybe stick it on something flat with adhesive. So, for the wallet, it was perfect as is. For anything else, it needs help.
Living With Them
So I went about my week. Keys in pocket with the Clip, wallet in my back pocket with the Tag.
- The Clip on Keys: It’s a bit bulkier than just keys, obviously, but not annoying. The black plastic got a few minor scratches bouncing around with the keys, but nothing major. I tested the ‘Find’ feature a few times inside the house. The sound it makes is loud enough to hear if it’s in the same room or nearby. Location tracking on the Find My map seemed accurate enough when I left it at my friend’s place accidentally. Showed up right where I left it.
- The Tag in Wallet: This thing is stealthy. I barely noticed it was there. That’s exactly what I wanted for my wallet. Tested the sound too – it’s maybe slightly quieter than the Clip? Hard to tell for sure, maybe just muffled by the wallet leather. But still loud enough to find if I misplaced the wallet in the house. Location tracking seemed just as good as the Clip.
So, Tag or Clip?
After using both, it really comes down to what you want to track.
The Tag is awesome for slipping into things. Wallets, passport holders, maybe inside a laptop bag pocket. Its biggest strength is being thin and flat. Its weakness? You can’t easily attach it to stuff like keys or a backpack loop without buying something extra.
The Clip is built for attaching. Keys, backpacks, luggage, maybe even a pet’s collar (though it’s a bit thick for a small pet maybe). It’s ready to go right out of the box for anything with a loop or ring. It’s definitely more versatile for attaching, but it’s also bulkier.
For me? I ended up keeping the Tag in my wallet, it’s perfect there. The Clip stays on my keys. If I needed another tracker for my backpack, I’d probably get another Clip just because it’s so easy to attach. If I wanted to track my tablet, I might consider another Tag and find some adhesive for it.
So yeah, neither is strictly ‘better’, they just do different jobs. The Clip is easier to attach to lots of things immediately. The Tag is better for thin spaces like wallets. Just gotta figure out what you’re tracking first, then pick the shape that makes sense. That was my experience sorting them out anyway.
