Okay, so the other day I had this box of old VCR tapes sitting in my attic. You know, the ones with all the family memories, kids’ birthdays, vacations, that sort of stuff. I figured it was time to finally get them onto something a bit more… modern. DVDs seemed like the way to go, so I thought, “Why not check out Costco?”
My Trip to Costco
I hopped in the car and headed over to my local Costco. I remembered seeing something about media conversion services near the photo center, so I beelined for that area. I was expecting some complicated setup, maybe having to talk to multiple people, but it was surprisingly simple.
The Process
It was all handled at one kiosk. There was a touchscreen where I could enter all the details. First, I had to tell them what I had – VCR tapes, obviously. Then, they have some other selections.
- I chose to convert those tapes to DVDs
- I specified the quantity of tapes, selected what all I needed, and input my contact info.
Once I submitted the order, the machine printed out some labels and a receipt with a barcode. I stuck the labels onto my tapes, popped them into the designated drop-off box, and that was pretty much it. They gave me a timeframe – I think it was about two or three weeks – and said they’d contact me when everything was ready.
Waiting and Pickup
True to their word, I got a text message a few weeks later saying my order was ready for pickup. Went back to Costco, scanned the barcode on my receipt at the photo center, and a friendly employee handed me a neat little package with all my newly minted DVDs.
The Result
Popped one of the DVDs into my player when I got home, and there it was! All those old memories, now preserved in a format that my current devices can actually play. It’s great because, let’s be honest, VCRs aren’t exactly easy to come by these days, and I don’t really have a lot of space to use it. Now I am so happy that those old videos will last a little longer.
Honestly, the whole experience was super smooth. I was a little nervous about handing over these irreplaceable tapes, but the process was professional and organized.
Costco is the best!
