So I stumbled upon this idea of a “gravity phone case” and thought, “Hey, that sounds cool! I gotta try making one myself!” I mean, who wouldn’t want a phone case that seemingly defies gravity?
I started by gathering some materials. I needed a regular, clear phone case first. I just grabbed a cheap one from a store. Then the magic ingredient: strong, tiny magnets. These little guys are going to do all the work. I also got myself some strong adhesive, the kind that can really hold stuff together.
The Building Process
First, I tested the magnets. I wanted to see how well they would stick to a metal surface and how many I would need to hold the weight of my phone. I placed them on my refrigerator and experimented with different configurations.
- I placed the magnets inside the phone case, trying different patterns. I wanted to make sure they were spread out enough to distribute the weight evenly. I didn’t want the phone to be too top-heavy or anything.
- Once I was happy with the placement, I used the strong adhesive to glue the magnets to the inside of the case. I made sure to use enough glue to keep them secure, but not so much that it would ooze out and make a mess.
- I let the adhesive dry completely. This was super important, I really want it to be secured and not fall easily. I patiently waited, giving it plenty of time. This is usually the most boring part, but hey, it’s essential!
After the glue was totally dry, I snapped the case onto my phone. I’ve got to admit, I was a bit nervous at this point. Would it actually work? Would my phone go crashing to the floor? I cautiously held it against a metal surface… and it stuck! Success!
It wasn’t perfectly “anti-gravity,” of course. I needed a metal surface for it to stick to, but it felt pretty darn close! It felt so satisfying to stick my phone to the fridge or a filing cabinet.
The phone feels much more secure than I first anticipated!
It’s a simple project, really, but it’s a fun one. And it’s definitely a conversation starter! This phone case makes me feel like I am the most powerful person in the room, even though the effect is cheap and silly.
