Alright, so today, I wanna talk about how I finally got my Steam games up on my TV using Chromecast. It wasn’t as straightforward as I thought it would be, but I figured it out, and I’m here to share the messy journey.
First off, I started by trying to mirror my phone to the Chromecast. I have a bunch of mobile games, and I thought, “Why not?” Turns out, it’s pretty simple. You just go into your phone settings, find the cast option, and boom, it’s on the TV. But that’s not what I really wanted. I wanted Steam games.
So, I dug around the internet a bit and found out about this thing called Steam Link. Apparently, you can use it with Chromecast to stream games from your PC. Sounded promising, so I decided to give it a shot.
Setting up Steam Link
- First, I downloaded the Steam Link app on my phone.
- Then, I made sure my PC and my phone were on the same Wi-Fi network.
- I opened the Steam Link app, and it started searching for my PC.
- Once it found it, I had to enter a PIN on my PC to pair the devices.
After I paired everything, I tried to launch a game. It was laggy, like super laggy. Almost unplayable. I was bummed. But then, I remembered reading somewhere that Chromecast with Google TV has gotten worse for game streaming over time. Maybe that was it?
I kept messing around with the settings. I tried a few different games, some worked better than others. I played some games with no noticeable frame rate issues, but others were just bad. It was a real mixed bag.
Honestly, it wasn’t the perfect solution I was hoping for. It’s a bit hit or miss. Some games work fine, others don’t. But hey, I managed to get some of my Steam games on my TV, and that’s something, right? It’s not ideal, but I’ll take it for now. Maybe there will be better options in the future, who knows.
So, that’s my experience with Steam and Chromecast. A bit messy, a bit frustrating, but I got there in the end. Hope this helps someone out there who’s trying to do the same thing. It ain’t perfect, but it kinda works.
