Okay, so I just got my hands on the new iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the first thing I worry about is those beautiful, but oh-so-fragile, camera lenses. I’ve cracked one before on my old phone, and let me tell you, it’s a pain (and expensive!) to fix. So, this time, I’m not taking any chances – I went straight for a camera lens protector.
Choosing the Right One
I did a quick search, lots of options popped up. There are tons of these things out there! Tempered glass, plastic, different brands, different prices… It’s kind of overwhelming. I ended up picking one that had pretty good reviews and seemed like a decent middle-of-the-road price. Didn’t want the cheapest, didn’t need the fanciest. I went with the tempered glass.
The Installation Process
Getting it ready:
- I carefully took my phone out of its case.
- Then I grabbed one of those little alcohol wipes (most protectors come with them) and gave the whole camera bump area a good cleaning. Gotta get rid of any dust or fingerprints!
- Next, I used the little microfiber cloth to dry it off and make sure there were no streaks.
Putting it on:
This is always the nerve-wracking part. These protectors are usually tiny, and lining them up perfectly can be tricky.
- I peeled off the backing of the protector, being careful not to touch the sticky side.
- Then, holding it by the edges, I VERY slowly lowered it onto the camera lenses. I used the edges of the camera bump as a guide to try and get it centered.
- Once I thought it was lined up, I pressed down gently in the middle and then smoothed it out towards the edges.
Checking the Results
I looked closely for any bubbles. Luckily, I only had one tiny one near the edge, and I was able to use my fingernail to gently push it out. Phew!
The final test: I took a few pictures and compared them to some I’d taken before I put the protector on. Couldn’t see any difference in quality! So far, so good.
My Thoughts So Far
Honestly, it’s a pretty simple process, but it definitely gives me some peace of mind. I feel a lot better knowing those lenses have an extra layer of protection. Whether it’ll actually save me from a cracked lens in the future, only time will tell, but I’m feeling optimistic!
