Upgrade or Not? Should You Buy a Used MacBook Air 2015? (Lets Weigh the Pros and Cons!)

Alright, so, I wanted to grab a cheap laptop, mostly for writing and some light browsing. Didn’t want to break the bank, you know? So, I thought, why not try a used MacBook Air from 2015? I’d heard they’re still pretty decent for basic stuff.

First thing I did was scour the usual online spots. You know, the big marketplaces where people sell their used goods. I saw tons of listings, some looked alright, others… not so much. It’s always a gamble with used stuff, right?

After a few days of looking, I found one that seemed promising. The pictures looked good, the description was detailed, and the price was right in my budget. I messaged the seller, asked a bunch of questions about the battery life, any scratches, and if everything was working properly. They answered everything pretty honestly, which was a good sign. They said the battery was so so but everything else was good.

We agreed on a price, and I decided to go for it. We met up, I inspected the laptop, made sure it turned on, checked the keyboard and trackpad, just the basic stuff. It looked clean, no major dings or scratches. So far so good.

I paid the seller, and bam, I had a used MacBook Air. Once I got it home, the first thing I did was wipe everything clean. You never know what kind of stuff is on a used computer. I reinstalled macOS, which was pretty straightforward. Just followed the on-screen instructions, no problem.

After it was all set up, I started messing around with it. Installed some basic apps that I use, like a word processor and a web browser. Everything ran smoothly, no lag or anything. The battery was, as expected, not great. The seller said it was so so. But for what I need it for, it’s totally fine. I mostly use it plugged in anyway.

My Thoughts So Far

Honestly, I’m pretty happy with it. It’s not the fastest machine out there, but it does what I need it to do. Typing is comfortable, browsing is smooth, and it’s super light and portable. I just have to install a new battery later.

  • Pros:
    • Cheap as chips.
    • Lightweight and portable.
    • Perfect for writing and browsing.
    • Still runs the latest macOS (well, a compatible version).
  • Cons:
    • Battery life is not the best, as expected.
    • It’s not a powerhouse, so don’t expect to do any heavy gaming or video editing.

So, yeah, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly laptop for basic tasks, a used MacBook Air 2015 is still a solid option. Just make sure you do your research, ask the seller questions, and inspect it properly before you buy. It’s a good deal.
