Okay, so I’ve been wanting to upgrade my home security for a while now, and I finally decided to tackle the front door. I’m not exactly a handyman, but I figured, how hard could it be? Famous last words, right?
Getting Started
First, I spent hours online looking at different doors. There are so many options! Steel, fiberglass, wood… and then all the different styles and colors. It was overwhelming, to be honest. I finally settled on a modern-looking steel door with a nice, clean design. I figured steel would be the most secure.
The Messy Middle
Next, I measured the existing door frame, like, five times to make sure I got it right. I even watched a couple of YouTube videos on how to measure for a new door. You know, just to be extra sure. Then, I ordered the door and waited. And waited. It took longer than I expected, but hey, that’s how these things go, I guess.
When the door finally arrived, it was time for the real fun to begin. I gathered my tools – a drill, a screwdriver, a level, some shims, and a whole lot of hope. I removed the old door, which was surprisingly easy. It was the installing the new one part that almost broke me.
- First, the door was heavy! I nearly dropped it on my foot.
- Then, I struggled to get it lined up perfectly in the frame.
- The shims were my best friend and worst enemy at the same time.
- I spent what felt like hours adjusting everything, trying to get the door to sit just right.
The instructions were… well, let’s just say they weren’t written for someone like me. I had to reread them multiple times, and I still wasn’t always sure what I was doing.
Finally Done!
But, after a lot of sweat, a few curse words, and a couple of near-disasters, I finally got the new door installed! It’s level, it closes smoothly, and it looks fantastic. I even added a new smart lock, so now I can control it with my phone. Pretty cool, huh?
Would I do it again? Maybe. It was definitely a learning experience. But I’m pretty proud of myself for tackling this project and actually finishing it. And now I have a super secure, super modern front door that makes me feel a little bit safer. So, yeah, it was worth it in the end.
