Alright, so I wanted better sound in my car, right? My buddy kept going on about his headphone amp, and I was like, “Hmm, could that work in the car?” So, I decided to give it a shot.
The Experiment Begins
First, I grabbed my old headphone amp – it’s a pretty basic one, nothing fancy. Then I dug around for an RCA to 3.5mm cable. I already had the 3.5mm to 3.5mm, which is usually use to connect the phone to the car.
- Headphone Amp
- RCA to 3.5mm cable
- 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable
- My Phone(the music source)
I connected the RCA end of the cable to the “line out” on the headphone amp. Makes sense, right? Output to output. Then I plugged the 3.5mm side of that cable into the, 3.5mm to 3.5mm, then, plugged that into the car stereo’s AUX input.
Flipping the Switch(or Pushing the Button)
I turned on the car, switched the stereo to AUX, and fired up some music on my phone. And…it worked! I mean, sound came out, which was a good start.I plugged the phone into the headphone amp input, and then the headphone output connect to the 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable.
I played around with the volume knob on the headphone amp. I noticed, that I could definitely make it louder than before. It wasn’t a huge difference, but it was noticeable. The sound quality? Honestly, it was a little bit better, a bit clearer. It also be controled by the orginal car audio’s volume knob.
The Verdict?
So, can you use a headphone amp in your car? Yeah, you totally can. Is it going to blow your mind? Probably not. But it’s a fun little experiment, and if you’ve got the stuff lying around, why not give it a try? It might give you that little extra oomph you’re looking for, and it’s a cheap way.
