Whats the Difference: Part of an Apple or an Apple Computer? Ask NYT

Okay, so the other day I was checking out the New York Times Mini Crossword, you know, just killing some time. And there’s this clue that got me thinking: “Part of an apple … or an Apple computer.” It’s a pretty neat little puzzle, right?

I started by trying to recall what I know about apples and Apple computers. I mean, there are tons of parts to both, but which one could fit in a crossword? I was scratching my head for a bit, going through all the possibilities. Then, I took a peek at the date—May 7, 2024. That’s when this particular clue showed up.

Now, I’m not going to lie, these clues can be real head-scratchers sometimes. They’re usually short and seem simple, but man, they can trip you up! So, I decided to dig a little deeper. I went through a bunch of crossword forums and websites, looking for what other folks were saying. You’d be surprised how many people get stumped by these things.

My Breakthrough Moment

  • First, I listed out all the parts of an apple I could think of: skin, stem, seeds, core…
  • Then, I did the same for Apple computers: screen, keyboard, trackpad, core… Wait a minute!

Core! That’s it! It fits both. The core is the central part of an apple, and in Apple computers, the core is like the main part of the hardware, you know, the processor and all that. It’s kind of cool how one word can connect two totally different things.

I found out that this clue has actually popped up in a few different puzzles, not just the NYT Mini. There were even some discussions saying there might be other answers, but “core” is the one that makes the most sense to me.

So, there you have it. I cracked the code, or at least I think I did. It’s always fun to solve these little puzzles, makes you feel like a bit of a detective. And honestly, it’s a great way to learn new stuff and keep your brain buzzing. If you’re ever bored, give these crosswords a try—they’re a blast!
