Alright, so I got myself one of those Fitbit Versa watches. Pretty neat, tracks my steps, all that stuff. But I looked at that screen and thought, yeah, that’s gonna get beat up quick. I work with my hands, stuff bumps into things. Didn’t want a big scratch ruining it right off the bat.
So, I went online and ordered some screen protectors. Didn’t get anything fancy, just a pack of the film ones. They showed up a few days later in a little envelope.
Getting Started
First thing I did was clear off a space on my desk. Didn’t want dust flying around. Opened up the little package. Inside were the protectors, a couple of little wipes – one wet, one dry – and some dust stickers. Typical stuff.
- Grabbed the Versa. Turned the screen off so I could see better.
- Took out the wet wipe first. It’s usually labeled ‘1’. Gave the Fitbit screen a really good wipe down. Got rid of all the smudges and fingerprints. You gotta get it clean.
- Then I took the dry wipe, marked ‘2’. Dried the screen completely. Wiped it until there were no streaks left. Held it up to the light to make sure.
The Fiddly Part
Okay, screen’s clean. Now for the dust. This part’s annoying but you gotta do it. Took one of those dust removal stickers. Just dabbed it all over the screen. Tapped, tapped, tapped. It picks up any tiny specks you can’t even see. If you skip this, you’ll get bubbles under the protector later. I went over it twice just to be safe.
Next, I picked up the screen protector itself. Carefully peeled off the backing film. Tried hard not to touch the sticky side with my fingers. Held it by the edges.
Lining it up… this is where you need a steady hand. Hovered it over the Versa screen. Lined up the edges as best I could. Took a breath and gently lowered it down. I started pressing from the middle and smoothed it outwards towards the edges with my thumb.
Finishing Up
Watched it stick down. Saw a few air bubbles trapped underneath. Always happens. I used the corner of the little cardboard squeegee thing that sometimes comes with these, wrapped in the cleaning cloth, to push the bubbles out towards the nearest edge. Had to lift a corner slightly once or twice to release a stubborn one. Got most of them out. There was one tiny speck left near the edge, but honestly, I wasn’t gonna fuss over it too much. They sometimes disappear after a day or two anyway.
Once I was happy enough, I peeled off the top protective layer, if the protector had one. Gave the newly covered screen a final gentle wipe with the dry cloth.
And that’s it. Done. Screen protector is on. Took maybe 10 minutes total, mostly just being careful with the cleaning and alignment. Feels better knowing the screen has some defense against bumps and scratches now. Simple job, worth doing.
