Alright, so I got my hands on this Whoop thing, the one without a screen, just a band. I’ve been wearing it for a while now, alongside my trusty old Garmin. Let me tell you, it’s been a bit of an experience.
First off, getting this thing on was a breeze. It’s just a strap, no buttons or anything. Very minimal. If you’re into that sort of thing, you’ll love it. You know, less is more and all that jazz. I actually tried a free trial for a month, thought it is a good idea to try before going all in.
Putting it on my wrist, it felt… weird. I’m used to having a screen to look at, to check my stats and all. This Whoop, it’s just… there. You kind of forget it’s on, which I guess is a good thing? But I’m an old school. I like to see my steps, and my heart rate!
- It’s super light, I’ll give it that.
- You can actually swap out the straps for different colors and stuff, so that’s kind of cool.
- No screen though, seriously.
Charging this thing is… different.
It’s wireless, which is pretty 2024, right? But it’s not like you just slap it on a pad. Nope, you gotta use this little battery pack thingy that slides onto the Whoop while you’re still wearing it. It’s like a little backpack for your Whoop. Kind of clunky, but it works. Took me a minute to figure it out, though. And you need to charge the battery pack itself. More charging! Charge WHOOP 4.0 is what the doc says.
So, I’ve been wearing this thing, collecting data, or whatever it’s doing. There’s an app, of course, that you gotta use to see your stats. It’s got all these charts and graphs and stuff. Honestly, it’s a bit overwhelming. I just wanna know if I’m sleeping okay and if I’m gonna keel over during my workout.
The app tells you about your “strain” and your “recovery”. I guess it’s supposed to tell you how hard you can push yourself. It’s a lot of information, maybe too much for a simple guy like me. I’m still figuring it all out, to be honest. It feels like I need a degree in data science to understand this thing.
I’m still wearing both the Whoop and my Garmin. Call me old-fashioned, but I like having my Garmin. It’s familiar, it’s got a screen, and I understand it. Maybe I’ll get used to the Whoop, maybe I won’t. We’ll see. I heard that if you don’t like it you can just send it back. I might just do that.
It’s definitely a different way of tracking your fitness. If you’re into that minimalist, data-heavy, no-screen kind of thing, then you might love it. Me? I’m still on the fence.
