So, I’ve been on this whole yoga journey lately, right? Not just the downward dogs and the warrior poses, but also trying to figure out how to, you know, make a living out of it. I mean, I love yoga, but rent’s a thing, and those fancy yoga pants aren’t exactly cheap, are they?
Anyway, I heard about this thing called Yoga Trade. It’s like a website where yoga teachers and studios and all sorts of yoga-related stuff can find each other. It sounded pretty cool. They say it’s a place to “connect instructors with this burgeoning new world of opportunity”. Sounds fancy, huh?
I’m still doing my Yoga Teacher Training (YTT), but I was curious. I thought maybe I could find some opportunities on there, maybe some part-time gigs or work-trade deals to get some experience while I finish up my training.
Getting Started
First off, I went and checked out the website. It looked pretty legit, I guess. Lots of listings, people looking for teachers, places offering retreats, you name it. They also have a lot of followers on social media – 16,519 likes as of today, wow. I spent some time just browsing, seeing what was out there.
I read a couple of reviews, and they were pretty mixed. Some people seemed to really love it, and others, not so much. I decided, what the heck, I’d give it a shot. It’s supposed to be a “digital marketplace” for yoga folks, and I wanted to see if it was worth the hype.
Diving In
I signed up, filled out a profile, the whole nine yards. They ask for a bunch of information – your experience, your certifications, what kind of yoga you teach, all that jazz. They have options for full-time, part-time, seasonal, even work trade. It is said to be a place to “make it easy for organizations to find quality instructors”. I put in all my details, hoping someone would bite.
Then came the waiting game. I started applying for some positions that looked interesting. Some were close by, some were in, like, exotic locations. I figured, why not dream big, right? I applied for a few work-trade deals too, where you teach in exchange for room and board. Seemed like a decent way to travel and get some experience.
The Results (So Far)
To be honest, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. I did get a couple of responses. It was pretty exciting to see those emails pop up in my inbox! I had a few conversations, and I’m waiting to hear back. Still, nothing solid yet, but it’s only been a little while. I won’t give up.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far, in a nutshell:
So, is Yoga Trade worth it? I’m not 100% sure yet. I’m still hopeful, though. I think it’s a decent platform, and it definitely has potential. I’ll keep you guys updated on how it goes. Maybe I’ll be teaching yoga on a beach in Bali soon. Who knows? Fingers crossed!
